Overview
Malaysia aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 45% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve this goal, a national mid-term plan has been formulated every five years, and the 11th Malaysia Plan has set forth green growth. The 11th Malaysia Plan includes the goals of expanding green investment, securing natural resources, and establishing a sustainable finance framework. Malaysia has submitted its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the UNFCCC in 2021 to address climate change. As for future prospects, the country is considering both the promotion of renewable energy and the improvement of existing thermal power generation in cooperation with the private sector to reduce GHG emissions in the energy sector.
